To enlist in the Marine Corps you need a minimum AFQT score, and then your line scores decide which jobs you qualify for. Here's how it works.
Reported as 31 (military.com 2026) or 32 (most explainers); GED holders need 50.
The Marine Corps builds these composite scores from the ASVAB subtests. A job qualifies you by a minimum on the relevant one.
| Composite | Built from |
|---|---|
| GT — General Technical | VE + AR |
| CL — Clerical | VE + AR + MK |
| EL — Electronics | GS + AR + MK + EI |
| MM — Mechanical Maintenance | AR + EI + MC + AS |
The Marines qualify MOSs with four composites similar to the Army's — most combat MOSs need GT ≥ 80–100, electronics MOSs EL ≥ 105–115. Cut scores vary by MOS and change.
A sample of Marine Corps jobs and the line score each one needs. Many jobs require two line scores — you have to clear both.
| Job | Requires |
|---|---|
| 0351 Infantry Assault (Anti-Tank Missileman) | GT ≥ 100 |
| 7051 Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting | MM ≥ 95 |
| 6316 Aircraft Comm/Nav Electronics Tech | EL ≥ 115 |
Example cut scores for illustration, drawn from 2025–26 sources; exact requirements vary by job and change with demand — confirm with a recruiter.
