Every subtest explained, how the AFQT and line scores work, and how to study.

What to expect

  • Short passages, each with one or more questions.
  • On the real paper ASVAB: 15 questions in 13 minutes. Here: 12 questions.
  • The explanation points to the exact line the answer comes from.

What it measures

  • Finding the main idea and the author's purpose
  • Locating specific details
  • Inferring meaning the passage implies but doesn't state

Instructions

  1. 1Read the question first, then the passage — you'll know what to look for.
  2. 2Answer only from the passage, not outside knowledge.
  3. 3For "main idea", pick the option that covers the WHOLE passage, not one detail.

Tips

  • Underline (mentally) the topic sentence of each passage.
  • Watch for absolute words (always/never) in wrong answers.
  • Inference answers must be supported by the text — don't over-reach.
